Home » About the Academy

Dear Visitor,

It is my honour to introduce to you the Basra Academy for Training.

Supported by the Basra Governorate and by the Southern Technical University, the Academy is an initiative launched in partnership with the Basra Technical College by its sponsors, Techma and Pigier.

The Academy will offer international-level accredited and non-accredited training courses conducted in facilities located at the Basra Technical College.

The population and the employers of the region will be offered international quality programs which, until the creation of the Academy, were available only outside Iraq. By offering them in Basra, the Academy makes these international programs accessible to many more Iraqis.

The employability of Iraqis and their professional abilities will be boosted by the Academy’s transfer of knowledge, know-how and skills. The Academy’s programs will help in limiting the southern economy dependence on costly imported human resources.

Through on-going training, more competent Iraqi workers will have greater development and promotion opportunities. The region’s economy will also see greater local and foreign investment initiatives thanks to the availability of valuable human resources.

In addition to training programs, the Basra Governorate and the Basra Technical College will work with the Academy on a variety of programs serving the Basra community. These programs will cover issues such as: women development, health awareness, first-aid, road safety, student’s orientation, career fairs, English and IT support programs in schools, small business initiatives, employability training for unemployed, trade-oriented educational programs, and many other vital issues.

Together the Academy, the Basra Governorate, the Basra Technical College and the Southern Technical University will help lead the southern region of Iraq and its population where they deserve to be.

The Director
